About this Website

Why this website?

I started developing MiddleMathsNZ a few years ago while teaching website development to my New Zealand-Aotearoa Year 6-8 composite class. It’s grown and changed considerably since!

When I started teaching, I knew nothing about how to teach maths well. In the years since, I have engaged in thousands of hours of formal and informal professional development, and have found dozens of sites that I regularly go to for free high-quality maths teaching resources, all of which have been linked to in these pages.

I’ve retired from the full time classroom now, and am working as a casual relief and release teacher in the Wairarapa area. This website is my gift to Year 4 to 8 Kiwi teachers who desperately want to simplify their planning and lift their game in the maths classroom. Dip into it as often as you need. Find a lesson plan, game, or task that excites you. Try new ways of teaching. Everything is free, and always will be.
